Telangana IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the rail coach factory being set up by Medha Group in Kondakal village under Shankarpally of Rangareddy district.
Speaking at the event, KTR said that the Medha Rail Coach Factory — “India’s largest private-sector rail coach factory” — is expected to create an ecosystem for rail coach manufacturing in Telangana.
In a Twitter post, KTR said: “Happy and proud to have broken ground for India’s largest private rail coach factory being set up by Medha Group; a Telangana company growing global. The production capacity of 500 coaches per year, investment of Rs 1000 crore. A make in Telangana initiative for a Self-reliant India.”
The rail coach factory is being set up with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore, creating 2,200 employment opportunities (1,000 direct and 1,200 indirect) in the region.
The facility will have a capacity of manufacturing coaches, locomotives, intercity trainsets, metro trains, monorail and other such parts. The production capacity is planned for 500 coaches (of various types) and 50 locomotives per year.
Medha Servo Drives Pvt. Ltd designs and manufactures various world-class high-tech electronics products for application on locomotives, trainsets, coaches, railway stations and yards, making it the largest propulsion equipment supplier to the Indian Railways.
